Still Hungry?

THE DESSERT

The cooking guide goes into great depth if you want it to, for example, if you don’t know how to peel an onion ( I didn’t, properly) it will show the correct way of doing so via text prompts and visual guides. The same goes for other things, like blanching tomotoes, crushing garlic or slicing a pepper. For many of these steps you can also view video tutorials that show you how to do it.

After following the instructions, literally by the book, the Bolognese I cooked was delicious, although I would say that, I made it. In fact, I’ll probably go on about it for weeks.

I was certainly more organized in the kitchen thanks to the guide and I didn’t have to keep referring to a page on a cook book to follow it – I could simple listen and then ask the chef to ‘move on’ or ‘repeat’. Also, despite this being a basic recipe, it did teach me a few things that I didn’t know, such as extra ingredients that accompany the dish well, the order in which to cook ingredients and it certainly improved my timing (nothing was burnt).

Since that bolognese treat, my wife and I have sat through and looked at the guide together and will definitely be using it to try some other dishes. However, we were disappointed that some countries don’t feature.

The Americas are poorly represented and in particular the Caribbean. I was hoping to be able to rustle up some Jerk Chicken or Curry Goat, but they’ve been totally missed out.

Another negative finger could be pointed at the lack of simple recipes. Although 250 recipes may sound a lot, some of them require obscure ingredients oand unless you’re a serious cook you probably won’t even attempt to find out where on earth you buy ingredients such as Agar-agar powder. The exotic names of many of them, such as the Sakoo Paik from Thailand or the South Korean Mandoo Guk, may also put off those who like to keep their recipes simple.

However, if you’ve bought or thinking of buiying Cooking Guide: Can't Decide What To Eat? it probably goes without saying that you’re hoping to improve your cooking or experiment with new dishes. If that is the case, I doubt you’ll find a more comprehensive, easy to use and fun guide.

Pros
In-depth search engine
Step buy step picture and video guides
Voice recognition works a treat

Cons
Would have liked even more recipes as some countries not represented

I've yet to come across any cook book that is as easy and as fun to use as Cooking Guide: Can't Decide What To Eat?

I disagree about the agar-agar powder though..

You can get those from asian grocery shops everywhere.. even in central Sheffield, which technically only have 2 chinese grocery shops stock them loads..
Mind you, having something like the DS in a kitchen with condensation is not a good idea. Wonder how many will actually break down due to damp and condensation, happens with mobile phones in bathrooms etc.

I choose that example as I'd never heard of it. It gave gelatin as an alternative to use.
Saw the TV advert last night….looks like quite a cool idea for a few evenings laughter :)

Better still if it Swore are you like areal head chef ;)
so its not an international menu, its asian with odds and sods thrown in?
