Prisoners and Playstations
British prison authorities are allowing inmates to play Grand Theft Auto:San Andreas, in their free time.
The Sunday Telegraph reported that many inmates are, "Re-enacting their crimes to boast to fellow prisoners. One prison officer said he saw a prisoner who was serving time for stabbing a victim during a street robbery mimicking the crime on the game."
Is it a responsible policy of the prison authority to allow inmates to play these sort of games? Personally, I don't think that certain prisoners should even have the priviledge of playing the latest video games.
Edward Garnier, the Conservatives' prison spokesman, said: "Prisoners should be engaged in purposeful activities not trying to relive their past crimes."
A Home Office spokesman said: "The use of high-tech goods, such as PlayStations, as privileges is common practice across many prisons and has been proved to be a successful method of generating a positive response from prisoners."
Well, of course it will generate a positive response! I'd be happy if I could sit around playing games instead reflecting over why I commited a crime in the first place.
