At CES, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow, this week Sony has revealed a prototype 3D headset that takes the form of a visor and has "top notch visuals" and “powerful” sound.

Apart from the photo below, taken from Techtree.com, Sony didn't reveal much more about the device, other than it was work in progress and currently "in the labs."

Executive deputy president Hiroshi Yoshio did make comment, however, that he has used the headset to play Gran Turismo 5. "Nobody – not even my wife – interrupt(ed) me, so I could get the highest score,” he said.

Pocket-Lint did manage to squeeze some more information out of Sony, revealing that "the headset gives you a separate video channel for each eye so there is no cross talk Internally, two OLED displays offer up a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels with simulated 5.1 channel surround sound being piped in through the ear pieces."

Sony is also showing off glassless 3D displays at CES this year. The HEXUS team is on the show floor throughout the week, so keep an eye out on further coverage, and don't forget to check out HEXUS.tv to see what Nick has been up to.
