--- Thermal Performance, Conclusion and Certification

Thermal Performance

In the thermal tests, the Blue Orb II started off well, posting a respectable 45 degrees CPU figure at idle that placed it mid-table.

Under load, though, the Blue Orb II just couldn't cope with what our toasty Intel workhorse was throwing at it. With a peak CPU temperature of 65 degrees, the Blue Orb II slipped markedly, falling to 20th.

Conclusion

History and reputation might have justified the Blue Orb II's introduction but the three or so years that have since passed leave it being out-muscled in the current market.

That's not to say that it doesn't do what it should do - it's just that it can't be regarded as an extreme cooler. It's in a price-bracket for the bling enthusiast and the only thing saving it there is the newer FX version featuring a text-display fan.
