Corsair announces new 450W and 550W PSUs

Building on the success of its well-reviewed HX620W PSU, Corsair is expanding its PSU line-up to include two lower-power models aimed at those folks who don't run extravagant PCs but still require a high-quality supply nonetheless.

The value-orientated VX450W and VX550W models are due to be made available in the next few weeks, and HEXUS has samples winging their way over to our labs right now.

Both modular PSUs will feature extra-long, fully-sleeved connectors, high-quality Japanese capacitors, a single 12V rail, and an ultra-quiet 120mm double-ball-bearing fan.

Corsair reckons that both SKUs should provide around 85 per cent efficiency over a wide load and, as you would expect, both are regular ATX PS/2-sized.

The value range is backed-up by a five-year warranty, we note.

Specs

Thinking about it for a moment, having a single 12V supply ensures that components don't breach rail limits. The downside of sharing a common rail is one of possibly introducing unwanted noise across multiple connectors.

We'll see just how good the 450W model is when we subject it to the HEXUS.examination next week, so stay tuned.

Looks good, but a strange choice by corsair to only have one 12v rail. The HX520 has three 12v rails, and these only have one. I thought it was safer and better for psu's to have two or more 12v rails?
they should be announcing proper international support instead of this, then people outside the USA may stop and take a moment to look.
Hasn't this been posted on Hexus previously? I remember it on the front page and I commented in the forums at the time, but cant find it.

No, the opposite. Better to have one rail that can provide decent Amps than several rails that can't take much individually or in combination. Cheap (and not so cheap) dual+ rail powersupplies are probably the main cause of modern graphics cards not working.
Thats all's missing now is a blue 700+ watt version :).
