If you're in the market for a beefy non-modular power supply, the TX850W launched by Corsair back in December 2008 probably fits the bill.

However, if nothing other than the cream of the crop would do, Corsair has a new kid in town - the range-topping TX950W.

As the name suggests, it's a 950W addition to Corsair's award-winning TX-series power supplies, and as with most things Corsair, it's designed "to meet the demanding requirements of PC enthusiasts, creative professionals and gamers".

Inside, users will find a dedicated +12V rail capable of dishing out a massive 78A of power (that's roughly 99 per cent of the PSU's total power output).

The unit is 80PLUS Bronze certified - meaning at least 85 per cent efficiency - and Corsair reckons the "high-quality 140mm cooling fan" will keep extremely quiet by remaining at low speeds until the PSU reaches around 65 per cent load.

The TX950W supports both NVIDIA SLI and ATI CrossFire configurations and Corsair throws in an array of cabling - including six PCIe 6+2 pin cables and extra-long cables for full-tower chassis. As you'd expect, it's given a mean time before failure of 100,000 hours and comes backed by Corsair's five-year warranty.

Who in their right mind would need a 950W power supply? Probably the same folks who fancy themselves something like a Corsair Obsidian Series 800D chassis, an Intel Core i7 975 Extreme Edition and two or three Radeon HD 5870 graphics cards configured in CrossFireX. If that sounds like you, the Corsair TX950W is available now priced at Ā£114.56 from SCAN.co.uk*.

I'm gonna guess and say Seasonic - the latest, similarly rated CWT units have be 80+ Gold. I'd also like to know for sure though.

I'd be more inclined to say CWT as all the other series toppers have been CWT units
