Microsoft previously posted an accidental reference to the Surface Pro 3 tablet on a support page, suggesting that this new device will join the upcoming Surface mini at a press event tomorrow. A report by WPCentral at the weekend has now revealed much more, as it uncovered details and pricing for the Microsoft Surface Pro 3.

The report says that there will be five variations of this third generation tablet, which is speculated to be a new and larger 12-inch Surface Pro, equipped with an Intel CPU and running the full version of Windows 8.1.

Here are the various configurations with associated prices from WPCentral:

  • i3-4GB RAM-64GB - $799
  • i5-4GB RAM-128GB - $999
  • i5-8GB RAM-256GB - $1299
  • i7-8GB RAM-256GB - $1549
  • i7-8GB RAM-512GB - $1949

New Type covers are also expected to be released with the Surface Pro 3, and flagged to come in Black, Purple, Cyan and Red. The red will apparently be a Microsoft exclusive, and limited to slates sold through Microsoft retail outlets. With a larger (and smaller Surface mini) screens, new covers are undoubtedly a necessity for Microsoft's new unique computing range.

Other details of the Surface Pro 3 include a purported smaller screen bezel and the Windows button being located on the vertical side instead of horizontal. The weight, battery life and other dimensions are as yet unknown.

With Microsoft sending out invitations last week reading "Join us for a small gathering", the highly anticipated Surface mini is also due to be unveiled tomorrow. Latest rumours suggest it to be an ARM – Windows RT device. The mini tablet may also have a 7.5-inch screen with 1440x1080p resolution. 3G and 4G connectivity options are also likely to appeal to road warriors.

We have been hearing that Microsoft plans to create a 'family' of Surface devices, covering a wide range of functionality and prices. The Surface mini definitely looks to target Apple's popular iPad mini whilst the 12-inch slate will bring more choice for consumers at the other end of the portable market. We shall see all revealed tomorrow evening, including full specifications and prices we hope.

I'm not going to lie. I want one of these tablets, I truly do. A full windows experience on tablet, with proper multitasking, lovely. However, I think it's a tablet replacement, Microsoft think it's a premium laptop replacement and you can only guess where they price it.

For the experience that the product provides I just don't think it's feasible. Anyways, I would much prefer an AMD powered one, as I'm sure no-one will be playing BF4 @1080p on this thing it would be nice to be able to run some games at playable rates, and AMD has proven it can do so in a similar form factor.

I truly don't. I haven't, and may never, forgive MS for MUI to try to leverage these, and as a result, I wouldn't buy one no matter how good they are or aren't. I don't care what the spec is, or what the price is, I won't be buying one.

To each there own.

I can agree that I would probably only use this in the ‘traditional’ desktop mode.
