To the delight of PC gamers across the globe, Rockstar games announced yesterday that Grand Theft Auto IV will be coming to PCs this November.

Today, the official GTA IV website has been given a very minor update which could provide some significant details. Where the website had once listed PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as the supported platforms, it has now been added to with Games for Windows Live:

But what exactly does this mean? Well, games branded with the Games for Windows Live logo are synonymous with many of Xbox Live's features. The logo is usually a sign of support for an Xbox Live gamertag, friends list, achievements and, in some cases, cross-platform multiplayer.

Until we hear from Rockstar, it's entirely speculation but promising for those who find Xbox Live to be the best all-round online-gaming network.

It does, however, pose plenty of interesting questions. We know that Microsoft has an exclusive deal to bring episodic content to the Xbox 360, will that same content make its way to the PC? Will the rumoured cross-platform multiplayer belong solely to Xbox 360 and PC gamers?

So… just checking..

Does this mean that I can go and own my friends who play GTA online with a 360?

I don't understand what the article is saying…
It's saying it will work with windows Live, which can interact with 360 Live.

So you should be able to see your friends and such when they're online, even if you're in windows and they are on their xbox.

It appears that one of the goals of this live thing, is that in the end, windows users will be able to play against xbox players, and people are hoping GTA IV will be supporting this cross platform multipler.

From what I've been reading it's all rumours though.
mediaboy, a Games for Windows Live-branded title provides the following common features:

Support for an Xbox Live gamertag
Support for Xbox Live friends list
Support for Xbox Live achievements

In some games, there will also be cross-platform multiplayer. That hasn't been confirmed for GTA IV, but if it does happen, you would be able go and own your friends who play GTA online with a 360.
… and ‘games for windows’ multiplayer is free, you don't have to pay to play your friends.
okay.. thanks.
