European PS3 movie store opens later this month

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced that the PlayStation Network Video Delivery Service will launch in Europe. later this month.

Included in the initial list of downloadable films will be Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Hannah Montana: The Movie, Bruno, Angels & Demons, Casino Royale, Crank 2: High Voltage and The Hills Have Eyes.

The service will allow movie fans to download the latest releases straight to their PlayStation 3 and PSP for viewing at home or on the go from this November in France, Germany, Spain and the UK with other markets to follow in 2010.

The video store will offer movie entertainment, available to buy or to rent, from major movie studios including 20th Century Fox, Disney-ABC-ESPN Television1, Lionsgate2, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM), Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Starz Media2, Universal, and Warner Bros. In additional, a number of local studios will be announced closer to launch.

I wonder what sorts of compression they'll employ. Don't see them distributing BD quality movies in this format, but would it at least be HD?

HD is not relevent, bitrate relative to resolution/image complexity is.

I'd much prefer 2mpbs at SD than 3mbps at 1080p.
