Conclusion

Those who don't need modular cabling or some of the newer semi-passive features seen on premium supplies may well consider this £70 a wise investment.

SilverStone's update to the Strider Essential range sees 500W, 600W and 700W models upgraded to 80 PLUS Gold standard efficiency. Now using FSP's Aurum S as a base, meaning tidy, high-quality internals, the 700W model offers more value than many other supplies in its class.

Those who don't need modular cabling or some of the newer semi-passive features seen on premium supplies may well consider this £70 a wise investment. Like all facets of computing, spending a little more buys you more performance, evidenced by the better EVGA SuperNOVA G2.

The power-supply market is full of quality offerings from a number of manufacturers. Adding to this long list is SilverStone whose 80 PLUS Gold Strider Essential Gold 700W is recommended at that £70 price point.

Noisy fan is enough to put me off, would rather pay more for a semi passive/fanless PSU such as a Seasonic.
How are PSU's tested (in a case?) and in which orientation as the fan can be on top, underneath or on its side depending on which cases they go in?
The *Plus* ratings need an overhaul as well to include noise levels (assuming here they are not already part of the ratings).

The 80+ ratings are for power efficiency alone, not for noise or airflow standards. If you want a super detailed review on any power supply, look up JonnyGuru.
this is a good base, so now they can do a modular one with an added price tag of 10-15 pounds. That I will buy
Look excellent value, not enough to rip out my current PSU but would get a look if I need one any time soon.
