Final Thoughts and Rating

Dual-torque hinges, an impossibly-thin body and a Gorilla Glass top combine to create a chassis that's extremely well-built and beautiful to behold.

We didn't think it would be Acer who would set a new standard for Ultrabook design, but credit where it's due, the Aspire S7 is one of the most stunning laptops we've seen in recent years.

Dual-torque hinges, an impossibly-thin body and a Gorilla Glass top combine to create a chassis that's extremely well built and beautiful to behold. As an everyday laptop, Acer's 13in Ultrabook appears to have it all - it's thin, light, highly portable, has a fantastic 1080p display, and is made to feel lightning fast through a Core i7 processor and dual SSDs.

However, at this price point every detail counts, and the Aspire S7 falls short in a few key areas. The keyboard is shallow, fan noise is an issue and battery life isn't quite where it needs to be. We've yet to see the perfect Ultrabook, and we suspect our search will continue until the next generation of Intel processors, due later this year.

The Good

Excellent IPS display
10-point multi-touch
Fast 2D performance
Beautiful design

The Bad

Bothersome fan noise
Lacklustre battery
Fair share of bloatware

If the fans are trully noisy that would be a killer to me buying one of these despite liking the look of it overall.
Sounds liek it has a crap battery life as well

266min is respectable for something that fast, that is so thin.

1.3kg for a good i7, with RAID SSD?

Not too shabby.

Max 4GB of RAM, utterly stupid.
4gb is laughable
