Conclusion

...GTX 1660 belatedly fills the gap by pairing a lean Turing GPU with 6GB of old-school GDDR5 memory to deliver high-quality 1080p gaming in today's latest titles.

GTX 1660 is by no means the most exciting GPU launch of 2019, however it may be one of the most important. Nvidia's mid-range x60 parts typically sell by the bucketload, and the statistics speak for themselves; according to the latest Steam survey, both the four-year-old GTX 960 and three-year-old GTX 1060 continue to feature among the top five most popular graphics cards.

A sensible upgrade at the £200 price point is long overdue, and GTX 1660 belatedly fills the gap by pairing a lean Turing GPU with 6GB of old-school GDDR5 memory to deliver high-quality 1080p gaming in today's latest titles.

Such a straightforward approach suggests that partner cards should be free of all frills and compact enough to maintain compatibility with a wide variety of systems. Palit meets the brief with its mini-ITX StormX, a small, unassuming card that delivers exactly what it was designed to, and nothing more. The fan could be a tad quieter under load, and we're not convinced the OC variant warrants a further £15 premium, but the base model remains a safe choice for a small-form-factor build.

Bottom line: throwing in a free game or lowering the price to, say, £175, may be needed to entice users of previous-generation hardware, but for anyone still sporting an even older mid-range card, the GTX 1660 is an obvious destination.

The Good

The Bad
Small, no-frills design
Silky smooth 1080p performance
Useful upgrade path from GTX 960

Could be quieter under load
Not massively faster than GTX 1060

nice itx card, I prefer these over triple slot and dual fans when its not necessary.
Bit surprised to see an 8 pin power header on a card like this, esp one aimed at the small form factor market. I tend to see a lot more six pin connectors on lower-end PSUs in consumer machines, which would surely be a good fit for cards like this?
My understanding is the TDP is 120W, a 6 pin, if overclocking, might be a limiting factor. It will work with a 6 pin in theory, but no harm in having an 8 pin surely to increase the power ceiling (if needed), no?
I suspect the main rationale was that they have the exact same cooler design available for both the 1660 Ti and the RTX 2060 so probably they just wanted to reuse as much as possible of the compenents/production line. Even if only the RTX 2060 technically needs the 8 pin maybe it streamlines things a bit.
