Winners Of Intel's Million-Dollar PC Design Challenge Announced

Announced at the Intel Developer Forum today, were the results of the Million-Dollar PC Design Challenge, part of the Intel® Core™ Processor Challenge that was spearheaded in an aim to invigorate industry innovation and bring forward stylish, high performance PC designs, featuring Intel's Viiv™ technology and Core 2 Duo system processors.

With the first prize in the challenge being up to $300,000 USD to offset against the costs of mass production for the winning system, together with up to $400,000 USD for promotional activities and co-marketing activities with Intel, focused on the grand prize winner, competition was understandably stiff amongst original design manufacturers (ODMs) and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide, all of whom were eligible to take part in the challenge.

With their Home Theater Lluon “Black Crystal” design system, TriGem Computer Inc. of Korea, were announced as the grand prize winner for combining style, acoustics, functionality and features in the most harmonious manner.

Picking up the runner up prize of up to $300,000 USD to offset against the costs of mass production for their winning system, the “Asono Merium” system graced Norway based Mesiro with the honors.

IDEO Founder and Chairman David Kelley and Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini were amongst the panel of judges deciding the fate of the shortlisted systems.
