Taiwanese small-form-factor specialist Shuttle has launched its X Vision product line, starting with an all-in-one Atom-powered PC.

The system, dubbed X50, is the first of a new line of products that Shuttle claims will lead the way for next-generation PCs. Whilst we've no reason to doubt that the X Vision line will innovate in months to come, the X50 is little more than an Intel Atom-based all-in-one nettop, following in the footsteps of ASUS' Eee Top ET1602.

Measuring 36mm in depth, the ultra-slim X50 offers a 15.6in touchscreen LCD that provides a 1,366x768 resolution. There's a built-in webcam and mic, stereo speakers, a 180-degree stand that also acts as a carry handle, and a VESA-compliant mounting system.

Notably similar to ASUS' Eee Top, of course, but Shuttle's X50 does have a little extra something going for it. Inside, it's powered by Intel's dual-core 1.6GHz Atom 330 processor, as opposed to the single-core N270 found it most rival nettops. That's coupled with the usual 1GB of DDR2 memory, 160GB hard disk and integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics.

As you'd expect, the system will consume just 30 watts of power, and it'll keep noise levels low at around 22dB. We're pretty fond of these low-cost all-in-one systems, but they're missing a little something, we feel. Throw in a better IGP - or discrete graphics, even - a larger screen, multi-touch, Windows 7, and we reckon it's a winner. Then again, it seems ASUS might already be doing that with the interesting 22in Eee Top.

That's not bad, but an N270-based system would consume much less at idle thanks to EIST - this system will consume 30watts all the time - no nice power-reducing features on the Atom 330..
Well, this is the quintessential kitchen pc. Or the quintessential low-requirement novice pc. What else do you need? You touch what you want to activate, you've got the mic and cam for chatting with the grandkids over skype, and you've got the speakers for listening to radio 4.
Not a huge fan of the styling but I like the simplicity of a touch screen and mic/cam.

Wonder how it fairs with video? Almost perfect for iPlayer duties in the kitchen, possibly with a USB TV tuner instead of having a separate TV in the room aswell.
