We've already seen a handful of high-capacity flash drives, including 128GB and 256GB solutions from Kingston. Unfortunately, the latter - albeit massive in terms of capacity - offers below average read and write speeds of up to 20MB/s and 10MB/s, respectively. Try filling that up with 256GB of data and you'll be waiting hours.

Hoping to bring a little speed to the high-capacity pen drive market, Corsair will soon be launching a 128GB model of its Flash Voyager GT - a line we've previously been impressed with.

The new 128GB addition, pictured above, measures a hefty 102mm x 39mm x 18mm, but packs plenty of oomph inside its rugged rubber housing. Corsair's using MLC flash, but claims to have achieved SLC-like speeds by using a "unique dual-controller design".

Exactly what kind of speeds are we talking about? Well, Corsair's quoting sequential read and write speeds of 32.6MB/s and 28MB/s, respectively. That's relatively quick, and Corsair claims random write speeds are up to 37 times faster than the competition.

There's no mention of pricing yet, but with Kingston's 128GB drive fetching in the region of £300, we wouldn't expect this one to be cheap. Still, at least it's quick.

Bah, Intel SSD in an external enclosure seems a considerbly better investment if this is anywhere close to £300.

Given that it's USB so essentially limited to 30MB/s anyway, I'd suggest a 2.5" drive in a lightweight enclosure as being a very acceptable compromise considering the costs…
