Taiwanese president gives gold award in recognition of engineering and design innovation

(Taipei, Taiwan — June 17, 2005) Yesterday, in a gathering of industry professionals representing both domestic and international concerns, Taiwanese president Chen Shuibian presented Ken Huang, Chief Architect of the Shuttle XPC, with the National Gold Award of Excellence. The award was given in recognition of Shuttle's outstanding achievements in promoting Taiwanese products through innovative design and engineering techniques.

"Since it's founding in 1993, Taiwan's Symbol of Excellence (SOE) Program has continued to inspire local manufacturers to produce high quality, innovative, and high added-value products," said Mr Shu, Taitra organizing committee chairman. "The results have been truly outstanding. In fact the SOE symbol is now a globally recognized mark of exceptional quality and innovation. It is also your guarantee of the best Taiwan has to offer."

A panel of international judges assessed the performance of 700 Taiwanese companies in areas including R&D and design innovation, quality control, and marketing and brand awareness. Of the 700 companies only Shuttle and 5 others were awarded the highest possible accolade, the Gold Award.

The award was granted in recognition of Shuttle's XP17 TempAG - a 17" LCD monitor uniquely designed to be portable and stylish. The XP17 TempAG features an advanced tempered glass panel to protect the display during transit, and has a patented anti-glare coating to improve image quality while the display is in use. This high-tech cover has been rated higher than steal on the Moh's scale of hardness. In addition, the designers of the XP17 developed an integrated frame, stand, and carry-handle from high-impact aluminum tubing. The result is a durable unit, that is easy to carry or pack into a bag.

The XP17 has been styled and engineered to match the look and performance of Shuttle's industry leading XPC small form factor computers, creating a well co-ordinated, high-quality, complete system solution.

The National Award of Excellence is one of a number of high profile international awards earned by Shuttle so far this year. Others include the Best of Computex 2005 award given to Shuttle's high-end SFF barebone the XPC SN25P, and the Red Dot Award 2005 for its XP17 display.
