Taipei, Taiwan, May 2009 - QNAP Security today releases the new firmware version 3.0.0 for the entire VioStor network surveillance systems (NVR-104/ VioStor-101/ 201/ 5012/ 5020 series). The new firmware supports a number of fascinating features such as H.264 video compression, strengthened recording data search (timeline and event-based), and new monitoring function.

"H.264 is the next generation standard for video compression which is also known as MPEG-4 Part 10. More and more network cameras support H.264 nowadays as it is able to deliver the higher video quality than MPEG-4 while the video files can be compressed into smaller size. That also means the storage capacity for H.264 video is smaller", says Andrew Yu, Product Manager from QNAP. "We're pleased to be one of the few leaders in the industry to support H.264 video compression from a number of network camera models and let our users enjoy smaller-sized yet high quality recording."

QNAP has also strengthened the video data search performance in the new VioStor NVR firmware. The users can now search the recording data more easily and effectively by time with the intuitive graphical time line or by event type. The timeline video search function allows the users to distinguish the time period when there are recording files from the calendar instantly. This largely shortens the searching time and improves the data search efficiency. Moreover, the monitoring performance of all the NVR series is empowered. When viewing the monitoring channels, the users can use the on-screen drop-down menu to switch to any camera channel immediately instead of browsing through the monitoring pages one by one to search for a particular channel.

Besides, the new VioStor NVR firmware supports dedicated user authority control. The monitoring, playback, PTZ camera control, audio monitoring right of the users can be individually configured. The system management interface is also enhanced that the administrator can view all the camera status, recording status, frame rate, and bit rate, etc. on a summary page. In addition, the VioStor NVR series now support new camera brands, such as Cisco, Linksys, and TOA and more camera models from AXIS, Arecont Vision, D-Link, ELMO, IQeye, Panasonic, SANYO, TOSHIBA, and VIVOTEK to offer the users more choices to set up their surveillance systems.
