Taipei, Taiwan, 29 April 2008 - VIA Technologies, Inc, a leading innovator of power efficient x86 processor platforms, today announced its effort to form a new Multi-Service Business Gateway alliance, an industry-wide initiative to enable the rapid development of convergence access platforms targeted at smaller business units.

Comprised of service, system and component providers, the alliance aims to deliver next generation enterprise-grade managed services to small and medium sized businesses, and corporate-level voice, video and data services to remote branch offices, by defining reference platforms that consolidate routers, firewalls, PBX, gateways and access devices into a single unit, reducing cost and time to market for OEMs and service providers.

As the initial x86 provider, VIA brings a unique range of ultra compact, power efficient platforms to the initiative. By selecting an appropriate VIA EPIA or VIA segment-specific board to plug into the LSI reference platform, OEMs and service providers can offer a broad spectrum of functionality, connectivity and performance options that can be customized to individual companies’ needs. Common business applications such as CRM, database hosting, virus scanning, PDA synchronization, web and SIP server functions can be integrated, providing secure, unified communications, high-speed connectivity and mobility within a single gateway device.

The MSBG Alliance will showcase business gateway solutions at Interop 2008, being held in Las Vegas from April 28 to May 1, at the LSI booth at Palm H.

“The MSBG Alliance is the result of a shared vision among a group of forward-thinking industry players to provide tailored convergence gateway solutions to smaller enterprises in a unique, collaborative approach to system development,” said Daniel Wu, Vice President, VIA Embedded Platform Division, VIA Technologies, Inc. “Our broad portfolio of ultra power efficient x86 platforms perfectly meet the needs of business to manage a multitude of business applications, while allowing plenty of headroom for future application add-on.”

Charlie Kawwas, vice president of segment marketing, LSI said, “The x86 processing solutions VIA provides enable the compact, efficient MSBG designs required in the marketplace.  We are pleased they have chosen to be a part of this effort.”
