PRESS RELEASE

Taipei, Taiwan, May 8, 2018 – QNAP® Systems, Inc. will unleash its pioneering, brand-new BlueGlacier Tiering Archive Storage, a joint storage solution integrating QNAP’s enterprise NAS with Panasonic’s optical disc-based data archive system for long-term data archiving, at the annual Japan IT Week Spring held between May 9-11 at the Tokyo Big Sight center. Facing the IoT/Big Data era when the rising need for long-term storage is becoming a challenge, QNAP’s BlueGlacier Tiering Archive Storage demonstrates a compelling real-world solution to tackle this information “Big Bang”.

“While the amount of digital data is expanding exponentially; capacity, performance, reliability, and costs are crucial elements when assessing a storage system”, said Meiji Chang, General Manager of QNAP, adding “BlueGlacier Tiering Archive Storage, incorporating Panasonic’s high-density optical disc technology, delivers a perfect solution to satisfy needs from primary storage to cold data storage and off-line storage as a perfect choice for long-term data archiving.”

“Adoption of optical media enables safe storage of critical and valuable data for a longer period of time with ensured data integrity,” said Hiro Hasegawa, General Manager of Panasonic Connected Solutions Company Storage Business Development Center, adding “We are glad to team up with QNAP to leverage our Optical Disc archival technology in their BlueGlacier Tiering Archive Storage, providing the advantages of Archival Discs to meet the enterprise market needs of long-term archived data.”

BlueGlacier Tiering Archive Storage is an integrated solution that comprises the powerful QNAP TES-1885U enterprise NAS featuring a 6-core Intel® Xeon® processor, the Panasonic freeze-ray system which uses Archival Discs, and advanced software stacks for performance boost and efficient management. It is designed to fulfill different read/write patterns - SSD for prioritizing access, HDD for general-purpose applications, and optical discs for storing cold data and long-term data archiving. To optimize storage efficiency and utilization, the TES-1885U, the storage gateway of BlueGlacier, features Qtier™ technology which automatically tiers data based on access frequencies and the built-in 10GbE interfaces provide a major speed increase for heavy workloads.

BlueGlacier is a cost-effective investment for storing legacy data in a wide range of fields, such as video production, broadcasting, surveillance videos, big data used to develop AI and deep learning, medical and legal information, data centers, and more. By separating cold (rarely-accessed) data from the primary storage and transferring it to the optical discs with longer archival life and greater reliability, organizations can enjoy optimal storage efficiency, higher performance, and lower total cost of ownership of the entire storage system.

BlueGlacier will initially be available in Taiwan and Japan. For more information regarding the BlueGlacier solution, please visit www.qnap.com/solution/blueglacier/en/.
