We've tested some awesome components this year, but we've also seen our fair share of pre-built systems that package the latest hardware into a turnkey solution that's competitively priced and guaranteed to work.

Said systems have made us wonder; given that it isn't always cost efficient to build your own PC, how many of you still choose to take the self-build route and how many of you instead opt to buy pre-built?

Most of the HEXUS team grew up building their own PCs - I've fond memories of my Pentium 4 / 9800 XT rig, pictured above - but only a few of us still take the time to put in the research and source all the right components for a perfect build. Perhaps it's age, but these days many of us appreciate the simplicity of a turnkey Dell.

But what about you, the readers, the consumers and the enthusiasts? Do you still derive pleasure from building your own PC, or are you increasingly turning to system integrators for a one-stop solution? Let us know in the comments below.

Always have self built but with Windows 8 tabs on the horizon this might be my last desktop, it'll keep me going for a few years anyway.
Always self built here as well and just got my new psu today -> Seasonic Platinum 860w.^^
Usually always self build because I can get exactly what components I want and you get much greater satisfaction from building your own. Worth checking out pre-builts though just in case you can grab a bargain.
self builds give you what you want/need ..in the best package
most prebuilt systems skimp where they can or really overcharge for whats in it ..
Self build for me. For some strange perverse reason I enjoy losing a weekend every 18 months or so swearing, trapping fingers, pulling hair, loosing screws, screw drivers etc as I build my own spec machine. I think half the fun is researching the best bits, i.e. Noiseblocker PL2 fans are amazing and the other half is the satisfaction you get from going all bespoke. For sure the reason is not saving money.
