Pad perfection?

Orange has revealed the details of its subsidised iPad contracts with the popular Apple tablet starting at £199 on a two year deal as rumoured.

Tablet wannabes will be able to buy a 16GB iPad with 3G for £199 if purchased with a two year Orange contract, compared to the present one-off cost of £529 SIM free.

A heftier 32GB model will set Orange customers back £249 and a 64GB version £299 with present customers having to shell out £25 a month for 2 years and newbies a monthly sum of £27.

For the monthly fee users will get 1GB of anytime data, 1GB of data between 4pm and midnight plus access to BT's Openzone Wi-Fi hotspots up to 3GB every month.

While T-Mobile and Three have yet to unveil their price plans, some people may consider Orange's offering a little steep considering users forking out full whack for their tablet can take advantage of a Three SIM deal that gives them 10GB for data for £15 every month.

The message seems to be that how people choose to split the price of the expensive tablet swings in roundabouts and for some people it might actually be ‘cheaper' to fork out the ‘whole' price of the iPad especially if they just plan on using it in their home.

A relatively recent survey found over a quarter of iPad owners ‘never' take their tablet outside their home, while more than half ‘rarely' or ‘never' take their shiny tablet outside their home despite its portable qualities, perhaps rendering the need for a contract useless for these people unless a home is without an internet connection.
