Driving around the city can be a chore

The money that you earn illegally is labelled as dirty money, so you’ll have to regularly pay a visit to the local bank where you have a deal with the owner that will turn your dirty money clean in return for a small percentage. Once again it’s a repetitive task, but does add a touch of realism to the game.

While many of the missions in Scarface are entertaining, exciting ventures there are an equal number that are just plain dull and involve travelling across the map to reach a destination where you’ll witness a cut-scene and then have to move onto the next location. This isn’t helped by the fact that the map in the game isn’t the most user friendly we’ve seen. Once you’ve begun a mission you’ll see a marker on the map and then be able to drive to the location following the arrows that conveniently tell you when you need to take a left or right turn. Unfortunately the arrow system doesn’t always work and we often ended up in dead-ends having to back track and drive around until another arrow pointed us in the right direction. We feel that any game that has an open ended gameplay style should give you the option to warp to the location, and although many people will probably disagree, at least this saves us driving up the same stretch of street for the millionth time. These long journeys are also not helped by the fact that saving the game can only be carried out at certain locations.

The Scarface license, soundtrack and the new storyline is one that captivates and despite the dodgy map its worthwhile carrying out the missions in order to see how the story pans out; later on in the game you’ll be able to hire a driver, enforcer and assassin as part of your team and steal vehicles (GTA style).

Scarface The World of Yours doesn’t break any boundaries in terms of innovation or graphics, but Vivendi Games’ Sierra Entertainment has done a solid job recreating the feel of the movie. The violent outbursts from Tony are always entertaining and the fight scenes and car chases are nail-bitingly furious. Getting a good deal on 10 kilos of coke is always a nice feeling and the lure of money, multitude of tasks on offer and the re-building of your empire is what will keep you coming back for more unadulterated violence.
