Four swords are better than one

And then there’s the online component where you can hook up in four player teams. You can jump into a game quicker than you can in many Xbox 360 and PS3 games thanks to the superb lobby area. I've had my fair share of frustrating moments trying to get into Wii games online, but this is smoothest online system for Wii that has ever been implemented, ditching the need for friends code and incorporating a robust player lookup system and a hub where you can wander around and invite other players. Once you're in a team, you can use Wii Speak to communicate. Providing you hook up with a decent team, it offers the best multiplayer experience on Wii yet - slaying beasts with friends, using tactics and communication is infinitely rewarding and enjoyable.

If I was pressed to point a negative figure at Monster Hunter Tri it’s that it needs a great deal of investment to get the most out of it. Creating a hunter man enough to take on the bosses is tough and it can be frustrating when you need to use trial and error to work out which weapons or tactics will take down each monster, but this isn't meant to be a pick up and play title. When there's so many games around that require minmum investement and can be completed in a weekend, Monster Hunter Tri provides a breath of fresh on Wii, a game that will give you months upon months of entertainment. If I'm still not playing this at Christmas time I'd be very surprised.
