Microsoft has today revealed that the cost of an Xbox Live Gold membership will increase on November 1st, 2010.

The price hike, which affects gamers in the UK, US, Canada and Mexico, will see charges rise by up to 20 per cent.

In the US, the cost of an annual Xbox Live Gold subscription will be increased from $49.99 to $59.99, whilst one-month and three-month subscriptions will also rise to $9.99 and $24.99, respectively.

The annual charge for UK customers will remain at £39.99, but a single month's tariff will increase from £4.99 to £5.99.

Microsoft states that its new pricing structure, detailed below, "will continue to offer the best value in the industry". Though, we're not at all sure gamers will see it that way.

Not a great start to the week for Xbox Live users, but there's a small glimmer of hope for US customers. In an attempt to lock-in existing subscribers, Microsoft's running a limited-time promotion that'll allow users to renew their annual subscription at a discounted rate of $39.99.

Fine with me, I'm gold till 2012 at the earliest thanks to picking up 13 month subs for little more than £1/month a while ago :D
When I first got my 360 back in January 2007, I got a Gold membership, after a couple of games on PGR3 multiplayer, I never bothered going on Xbox live. Basically decided Xbox live was crap, and definitely a ripoff, especially consider playing Steam games online is free once you have the games, and you get a far better gaming experience.
oh well as I never bother with gold it makes no difference to me.

Cool story bro.

I did die a bit inside when I read the title, however it says nothing of the 3 month subs and with the 12 month staying the same (for us) I'm not too bothered.

I've also found that when your sub runs out they (Microsoft) offer you deals at the weekend on discounted subs, I've just been getting there 3 months offering at cut price which so far this year has turned out I've got 12 months for around £33 and as long as this doesn't changes I'm fine.

Edit: Would also help if the Shopto advert wasn't taking over half the table.
Still a rip off considering no such charges for PC gamers online….
