No stranger to controversy, Grand Theft Auto has been highlighted as being the main reason why a Bangkok taxi driver was murdered in cold blood this weekend.

The Bangkok post reports that 19 year old, Polwat Chinno, stabbed to death taxi driver, Kuan Pohkang, on Sunday morning to steal money to fund his online gaming habit.

Chinno's getaway was foiled by police who eventually persuaded him to leave the taxi having locked himself in. When they did arrest him they found that Pohkang had been stabbed to death 10 times with 2 sharp knives.

Police claim that Chinno told them he was addicted to Grand Theft Auto and 'said killing seemed easy in the game. He imitated a scene where a criminal kills a driver for his car to escape police. '

''I needed money to play the game every day. My parents give me only 100 baht a day, which is not enough. I am also fed up with them fighting. They are civil servants and do not make good money,'' he said.

''Today [Saturday] my mother gave me 500 baht, so in the evening I went to the Lotus superstore and bought knives.''

The rest is history and now Chinno faces robbery and murder charges.

So of course, no one thinks this might have been influenced by any other game but GTA, as GTA suffers from dislike from certain groups due to other things (sex scenes, strip clubs etc.)

If he gets off, or partly gets off due to that reasoning, I shall be shocked and disappointed in whatever legal system he gets tried under. If you're going to play games, you should be able to seperate reality from fiction… or at least know that you shouldn't actually do things like steal cars, stab people etc. in real life.

Video Games is not an excuse for bad behaviour.
What the…??

It sounds like the guy is using the game as an excuse for his behaviour!

Dog wagging the tail or the tail wagging the dog? :juggle:
hang on, if he already has gta why did he kill to fund his habbit of playing gta online?. Bloody idiot, if you cant determin what is real and fake(+right/wrong) then stop playing the games, hes using it as an escuse, if your parents gave you 5x the amount of pocket money would you waste it on some knives or buy the game as you can now afford it? this story is weird.

I say someone should kill him with a 360/ps3 or gta case, then he can relise its a game.
Im not serious about this, just shove in prision and forget about it.
Of course, if you look hard enough, you'll also find some yahoo who went on a killing spree ‘cos ’God' told them to.. oh crap wai…

On the other hand, I can see two key psychological factors the killer mentioned in passing, economic depravity, and an unstable upbringing (constantly arguing parents), GTA was his escape from reality. If it hadn't have been GTA, it would have been drugs, or something else.
Seeing as most taxi drivers will try to cheat you one way or the other, this guy got what he deserved… :) ;)

This weekend at the Greek island of Santorini, a 31 year old guy, after a very heated argument with the girl-friend, losses his mind, butchers her and the family dog, cuts off her head and goes out in the central square presenting the head to the tourists and to the surprised locals!!

The police which arrived in the scene soon after, shot him 5 times and tried to arrest him, but the guy who was in amok grabbed the knife (which somehow slipped from the policeman’s attention) slit the cop’s throat, got into one of the cop-cars and drove away!
He then drives over two women doctors who were riding a motorcycle followed by a very impressive pursuit around the island, until he was finally arrested!

I wonder what video game he had been playing the previous night?!
LOL!!!

A friend of mine was there during the scene and it was not as “light” as these sites present it! ;)
