HEXUS.E3 If you ask most people what their highlight of E3 2006 was, you'll be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't express their passion for "Wii!". Due to the reaction, shares in Nintendo have rocketed!

Despite Sony announcing the release date, price point, and a stunning range of games for the PS3 and Microsoft confirming that Grand Theft Auto IV will be coming to Xbox 360, both companies were overshadowed by the unique Wii. Nintendo aim to give gamers a unique gaming experience rather than having to rely on high quality next-gen graphics. The wireless Wii controller is an important aspect of this experience, with its built-in speaker and vibration mode.

Despite some people queuing for upto 6 hours to get a chance to play one of the 27 games on show, there was nothing that could dampen their spirits - incidentally you could practically waltz through the small queues at the PS3 and Xbox 360 areas. Perhaps the announcement on the price of the PS3 encouraged Sony fan boys to turn their backs?

Gamers will be able to pick up a Wii for under $200 (unconfirmed) and will have access to some great launch titles, such as Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. The announcement of 27 varied games, plus downloadable content, has ensured that Nintendo has consolidated the trust of old Nintendo fans whilst re-igniting the lost passions of old skool gamers. You only need to take a browse around some of the Nintendo forums to witness this new surge in interest.

Wii also has the power to draw in non-gamers with its unique style and games -including Wii sports which appears to be the ideal way to have fun and get fit at the same time .

Wii is due for release at Christmas time and, if it is 'affordable', there's no doubt that the console will be number 1 on many kid's list to Santa.

I'd underline that response, to be honest.

We were in the doors with early access passes at 9am on Wednesday and there was an instant que for Wii… however, over onthe Sony we could storll up and play PS3 games with no waiting at all.

It has to be said that though Nintendo were limiting access and therefore helping to add to their que lenght, the fact that people were queing right around the stand even on Friday shows how popular Wii was. The Sony stand, by contrast, though just as big as Nintendo's was looking somewhat bereft of bodies…
how about the N-Gage stand? :)
Hmm… We spent some time with Nokia and their message is pretty clear.

Whilst N-Gage was a success for them with gamers, the release of the DS and PSP has heavily imapcted on the N-Gage.

So rather than focus on a dedicated gaming handset, Nokia are now putting N-Gage technology into their normal handsets. Nokia recognise that a gamer will have a handheld of some sort, so their target market is the casual gamer.

What they're looking to do is getting decent gameplay, graphics and framerates onto more general purpose handsets. So instead of having a gaming device that also a phone they want to have a phone that also plays decent games.

that was always the problem with the ngage though - the ****ty numeric keypad did NOT lend itself to gaming. needing to yank the battery to change game is not user-friendly. the gaming part always seemed to be an afterthought
Much better idea that is^

I would probably consider a Nokia again if I could play a half decent game on the go :)
