HEXUS.E3 Yep, time to bring you more gaming goodness from the Sony stand where we’re surrounded by dozens of screens all showing the latest PS3 games in the pipeline…

Now this little beauty deserves more than the one screenshot as it has to be one of the most fun games on offer for the PS3. Heavenly Sword is an Oriental inspired beat-em-up but has obviously had masses of influence from the superb martial arts films with masses of wire-work. Think House of the Flying Daggers and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and you get the idea… Once again, excuse the shots as the camera does little justice to the game itself.

No Warhawk uses the PS3 controller’s tilty motion sensor stuff to make the pad act like a joystick. Tilt the whole thing forwards and your ship drops it’s nose, titl left and right to go left and right… you get the idea. What was rather cool was the strafing you could do by holding down a button and tilting left and right. You can still raise and drop the nose but you don’t move forward.

In a dogfight, sitting still isn’t a good idea though, so the circle strafe thing only works well against targets like bases or big motherships. Still it was great to hear the Sony rep say that the tilt motion sensor was “an industry first”… the debate on that one is gonna run and run…

And finally, (for now), we came across this little gem titled Resistance : Fall Of Man. The single player game follows the actions of a soldier in the US and UK coalition, battling to stop the spread of a virus that turns people into virus spreading monsters. The single player game played pretty well, though I still utterly suck at aiming with a joypad and I really would’ve liked to see the tilt sensor used here… perhaps hold the joypad like a gun? I dunno… but as you can see, it looks a pretty good game.

But we had the most fun in the 16 player LAN Sony had running where both myself and David had a go at pwning the competition. Now I’d had a good crack on the single player, so David did most of the LAN gaming. As usual, there was some nonce running around who has obviously been playing a lot and he kept spawn camping… but once David had got a grip of the controls he did an admirable job of hauling his way up the rankings to finish just 2 frags behind the leader. I reckon it’s all that training he’s had with the Stirling Services guys…

We’ll be back with more on Sony from E3 2006 very soon.
