PS3 pricing

We've been speculating over the price of Sony's Playstation 3 every since we heard how expensive the console will be to manufacture. Playstation magazine claim to know these prices, they say that PS3 will available for about $399 in the U.S., €322 in Europe and ¥45,965 in Japan.

In the latest issue they also state that the final design of the PS3 will appear at E3. The magazine also talks about the 60GB hard drive, which will be a standard feature of the console.

In Europe, we initially received reports that the price would be between €499 and €599, this was based on an interview with SCEE corporate communications director Nick Sharples. Sony officials immediately came forward to state that this price had been misinterpreted and told us that the " PS3 would be expensive when one looked at the current price of a video games machine, at far below 500 Euros, but extremely good value when looking at the BD and HD technology inside."

If the price is accurate, then they'll be an audible sigh of relief from all those fan boys who've been expecting the worse.

This cheaper than expected price could be due to Sony's comprehensive online service, which will undoubtebly help them to claw back any losses incurred from the sale of the console.

Update
PSM have said that they do not know the pricing of the PS3, the article is purely speculative.

If thats the price I'll be tempted. It'll be a toss-up between PS3 and a New AM2/Conroe-based system
I'm expecting either £349 or £299 tbh, with an outside chance of £399.
This is great news. I'd have been tempted at the originally rumoured price but I'll definitely be having one at this price.

If I can get one outside of Ebay that is…
If that price is correct then thats really going to give Microsoft something to think about. Wouldnt be suprised if the 360 is knock down by a few quid in this case.
There have already been reports that Microsoft will drop the price of the 360 when the PS3 is launched.
