Over 18 PS3 owners can rejoice today with the news that they'll be a special section of Sony' s Playstation Home service dedicated exclusively to them.
The adult-only section will keep those kiddies at bay and will be for mature (*coughs*) conversation and adult-themed material (hell yeah!). Don't get too excited though, it doesn't mean that PS3 Home will be flooded with porn and filthy chat (yet) because Sony has been quick to dismiss the suggestion that the area could be used for anything dodgy.
"We have the ability to age-protect areas, and I think that's something that we will inevitably make use of."
"So, it's clearly not Second Life."
However, it has lowered the whole tone of the PS3 Home service by suggesting that it may include a casino in the 'Over 18' area, where no doubt those of a weaker will be fleeced of their cash.*
The news was revealed at the Edinburgh Interactive Festival, where Peter Edward, director of the PlayStation Home Platform Group, and Jamie McDonald, VP of Sony Worldwide Studios said that the service won't be launched initially but when it is it will likely include mature-rated videogame trailers and other adult-themed content, including the aforementioned casino.
Of course, when there's so much debate about mature-rated games and minors accessing them, it makes perfect sense to be able to smack age restrictions on certain areas, and allow those of appropriate age to download material, but do we really need a casino? Porn yes, casino, no.

* No idea whether the casino will feature real money.
