New portal createdFollowing the launch of the BBC's iPlayer on Wii, hackers have now created a portal where PS3 users can unofficially access the BBC's iPlayer, allowing for the streaming of BBC content.
The first version of the iPlayer was released last week on Wii, but Microsoft and Sony are blocking plans to bring the service to Xbox 360 and PS3 due to lack of control over the content.
"If you want to get on the PlayStation or Xbox, they want control of the look, the feel and the experience; they want it done within their shop, and their shop only," Erik Huggers, head of the BBC's Future Media and Technology group, told the dot.life blog.
The BBC iPlayer service launched in December 2007, but has recently met criticism from UK ISPs due to the additional bandwidth the service will require.
