Friend's list and messaging access in-game

PS3 gamers don't currently enjoy the same range of options as Xbox 360 gamers do when it comes to accessing their friend's list and the various features whilst in-game. In all fairness, Microsoft has had a bit longer to work on getting the dashboard right and now, one year into the PS3's life cycle, Sony are taking steps to catch up by improving the functionality of their XMB (XrossMediaBar) interface.

In an interview with Shack News, PlayStation Network's director of operations has revealed that they're looking at enabling access to the interface during games so you can invite and message friends. Eric Lempel says, “We are looking at a number of enhancements related to accessing some of the XMB features during gameplay, including messaging your friends. While there's no timeline to announce at this point, we've heard loud and clear from consumers that in-game XMB access is one of the most requested PS3 enhancements.”.

A firm date for the changes is yet to be announced.

Why does the article quote the same response twice?

I was wondering if/when they were going to implement this. I've only had my PS3 for about 10 days and the first thing I thought of was being able to access the menu whilst loaded into a game.
Wow it's taken them this long to realise it needs it?
