HEXUS.E3 As with all new technologies, it sometimes takes a little while for the software to catch up with the hardware… Now we all know the Eye Toy is a fun piece of kit to have attached to your PS2, but if we’re honest, the games always feel like they’re more of a tech-demo than a full game.

But now it looks like that is set to change with Eye Toy Kinetic Combat.

Now whilst the basic principle is the same, Kinetic Combat takes things a stage further and helps you to learn martial arts inspired moves before you progress into the actual combat stages.

Unlike many Eye Toy games, Kinetic Combat dispenses with all the frippery background stuff and just lets you get on with the fighting. But more than that, the game forces you to use your whole body rather than just your top half like most Eye Toy games. This gives you a serious workout too and, from having had a go, it’s more fun than running on the treadmill, works muscles at once and knackers you out far quicker too (though that might just be me being supremely unfit).

Kinetic Combat teaches you a variety of kicks and punches and uses it’s movement recognition during the fight sequences. What this means is that you can’t just flap away at your opponent, you’ve got to actually fight… Sadly, smashing a bottle to glass the bad guys isn’t recognized by the game, though perhaps this is a good thing…
