This week Wii’s innovative Virtual Console has gone back in time to offer players across Europe a selection of popular games from the 1980s. Leading the charge is Gradius, a classic side-scrolling shoot em-up from Konami, first playable on the Nintendo Entertainment System, which set-the standard for its genre as well as delighting game fans across the globe. Gradius, is now available to download from the Wii Shop Channel for a 500 Wii Points.

To compliment this great retro-revival are three top games from the SEGA MEGA DRIVE. The first offering is the highly amusing Bonanza Bros., a two-player platform game where players commit a series of burglaries as two bungling brothers. Next up is arcade inspired action game Comix Zone, where up to two players progress through a comic book fighting bad guys to reach the next page. Finally up to two players can battle their way over 50 levels as one of twelve characters in the highly addictive Gain Ground, All three SEGA MEGA DRIVE titles are available for 800 Wii points.

These great games will join the 42 classic titles already available for the Virtual Console in Europe. Since launch a staggering 1.5 million games have been downloaded worldwide from the service.

Comix zone isn't 2 players ;/ mistake in the article..but i bought it anyway - great fun :)
I wish they'd release more N64 games on the Virtual Console - there were plenty of great games for that!
I really hope Goldeneye is released on VC - that was such a good game……

It would be more awesome if it was adapted properly for the Wii (Wii-mote), with just a minor graphics refresh and came along with online play.

Now that would be one of the biggest selling games ever surely?

Downloaded Super Mario 64 and it's rubbish with the retro controller. Once again for me the Wii needs some online capabilities.

When you have the 360 sitting next to you, it's difficult to even consider playing Wii at this point.

Great with people round, damn boring on your own. Don't get me wrong I love Wii and the fact that Nintendo have tried to do something different is great, but as we speak, I'm bored with it already. Bring on Trauma Centre!
