Global Foundries seems to believe it's in the running for a Presidential treat, as the White House confirmed on Wednesday that President Obama would be traveling to Saratoga to deliver a speech at the Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) on Monday.

Obama will apparently be discussing the economy and industry sources say it's more than likely Global Foundries will "figure prominently" into the President's visit based on the close relationship between the Foundry and HVCC.

After all, HVCC is shelling out for a multi-million dollar training centre next to GloFo's offices in Malta. The training centre will effectively be a ‘clean room' environment designed to train semiconductor technicians in what should be a state of the art manufacturing environment, prepping them for work at either GlobalFoundries' Fab 2, or any other state of the art fabs - though there aren't too many in the vicinity.

GlobalFoundries could not officially comment on the visit other than to say the firm had been in talks with White House officials about the role of a community college education in the future of the chip fabrication plant. The White House has apparently been asking pointed questions about high-tech manufacturing and high-tech development, mulling over what the impact of the industry could mean in the region.

Missy Shorey, spokesperson for Luther Forest Technology Campus where Fab 2 is being built, told local press that the group had also been in contact with the White House to discuss that self same topic. Meanwhile, it's reported that several secret service personnel in Ray-Bans have been spotted sniffing around the area as well as Albany airport.
