Taiwan's A-DATA Corporation already offers a wide variety of portable storage solutions, but in an effort to ensure it has every possible usage scenario covered, it has today unveiled what it claims to be the industry's first 1M 30-min waterproof and shock resistant portable hard disk drive.

It's being dubbed the SH93, and it's encased in a rubber-plastic mix and "special cushion materials" that ensure it'll go unaffected when placed in water up to one meter deep for 30 minutes, as well as complying with the military standard MIL-STD-810F drop test.

The excessive amounts of durability make it ideal for "students, road warriors, and sports enthusiasts," says A-DATA. What exactly students do with their hard drives these days remains a mystery.

A-DATA isn't revealing details regarding pricing or availability just yet, but we do know that the SH93 drive will be finished in "racing car yellow" and available in 250GB, 320GB, 500GB and 640GB capacities.

There's also a useful three-year warranty - just in case you happen to take testing the SH93's durability a step too far.
