Back at COMPUTEX '08, Super Talent told us it would be selling its 120GiB SSD drive at below the $500 mark in the very near future.

Having become accustomed to sky-high SSD prices, we had our doubts. All credit to Super Talent, though, its SSD is 120GiB SSD is going for $495 from Newegg.com right now, and it's no longer the only one to take the axe to its solid-state prices.

Fast forward to today, and Super Talent has announced a revision of its MasterDrive SSD series. The drives, which provide read speeds of up to 120MiB/s, are being given a significant boost in write speeds as detailed in the table below.

According to Super Talent, these new write speeds will ensure that the MasterDrive series outpaces the fastest hard drives in the world.

Joe James, Super Talent director of marketing, said:

Our expert engineering team is constantly discovering new ways to improve our products, and this is one improvement that will be well received by power laptop users. We continue our relentless drive to add performance, features and value to our SSDs while driving the price down.

With its new speed rating, Super Talent's MLC-based MasterDrives come in a touch faster than Samsung's forthcoming SSDs. Here at HEXUS, we're just loving how SSDs are becoming both faster, and cheaper. The SSD scene is getting better each month.

As most people with a measurable IQ are likely nodding along on each announcement saying “yup Cletus, I saw this a'comin” I must admit the anticipation I had a few years ago for solid state technology has certainly not dwindled.
Granted it's not the crystal and holographic techniques we may have been most interested in (look them up if you haven't got excited over this news item)
In fact it's come to market quicker than I thought.

I'll be buying in the near future and I'm sure a few of the hardcore are well ahead of me in that respect.

Roll on the next 6 months of technological advance and price reductions :)
As soon as its 500GB for less then £100, I will be raiding them, until then its them olde spinning discs in a box for me.
still tooooo expensive for SSD…

just wait:rolleyes:
