The announcement comes after two reported incidents of notebook batteries overheating and rupturing into flames, causing minor property damage. Although no injuries have been reported, consumers are advised to stop using affected products immediately.

HP states that battery packs that may pose a fire hazard were manufactured between August 2007 and January 2008, and lists the potentially-affected notebooks as follows:

I thought my 6720s was getting a bit toasty… :(
At least they have taken a pro-active approach to the problem, unlike some companies.

True - I guess I'm just lucky that my laptop hasn't already burst into flames in the last 17 months… ;)

The real problem is that to check my laptop's serial number against the list of affected laptops, I'm going to have to use … my laptop! Let's hope it doesn't burst into flames while I'm trying to check if it is going to burst into flames… ;)
Can anyone in the world make battery's that don't explode these days?

It would help if they didn't make batteries out of lots of explosive chemicals TBH :)
