Point of View announced last week a pair of NVIDIA ION-based motherboards that appeared to fit the bill for a high-def HTPC build.

The board, pictured below, sports NVIDIA's ION chipset - complete with a GeForce 9400M IGP - and couples it with either a single-core Intel Atom 230 processor or a dual-core Intel Atom 330.

Sounds promising, and with HDMI output and a dedicated PCIe x16 slot, it ticks many of the right boxes for an energy efficient HTPC build. All that Point of View failed to mention last week, was pricing.

Fortunately for those contemplating picking either of the boards up, the manufacturer has today shed a little light on what we can expect to pay. According to reports, the single-core bundle, featuring a 1.6GHz Intel Atom 230 processor with 512K of L2 cache, will be priced at €129 (roughly £116).

For the dual-core offering, featuring a 1.6GHz Intel Atom 330 processor with 1MB of L2 cache, you'll be looking at €139 (roughly £125).

Seems just a tad pricey, we reckon, but then you are getting a GeForce 9400M IGP, a dual-core Atom processor and a tidy-looking Mini-ITX board. What do you think, anybody tempted?

In the same pricing region as other mini-itx motherboards, and a lot of those don't include a CPU, or come with rubbish integrated graphics… so I'd say not bad.
Pretty good pricing that if you ask me. For mini-itx with a cpu at launch.

Hopefully it will be sub £100 in a few months too.
As long as the 330 model comes in at a RETAIL price of £125 INC VAT then I am in for a couple…. but if its plus VAT then its looking stupid.

Looks a good board - passive (great for HTPC), 4sSATA (NAS/server) but PCI-Ex16 seems a bit silly… I mean what good is an HD4670 or 4850 if you have an Atom powering it all?

I think PCIe 16x is a great idea. Meand you could put a better graphics card in there, or a RAID controller, or a TV tuner. If it was a 1x slot, you would be limited to Tv cards etc.
Yeah, it's probably about the price you'd expect - given the amount of oomph the Dual core version should provide I'd definitely be interested - very mini-htpc friendly. After all, a 9300 mATX mobo will set you back £80 - £100 on it's own. mini-itx will never be as good for the budget-concious as mATX, but for the space / size concious these make a very compelling case…
