The successor to the GTX 480 and the world's fastest single-GPU graphics card - and in some cases, fastest graphics card full stop - has finally been unveiled, and we've already had the chance to let it rip through our suite of benchmarks. You know what we think, and if you've got money to spend and demand nothing but the best, the GTX 580 really is the only way.

In stark contrast to the launch of the first Fermi cards earlier in the year, this latest GPU is supposed to be in plentiful supply. Has NVIDIA managed to right all of the wrongs of the GTX 480? Let's take a look.

Pricing is correct as of 3pm, Tuesday November 9.

As for availability, things aren't looking too bad and there are definitely cards out there for anyone ready to take the plunge.

The lowest prices of the day go to dabs, where you can find a stock clocked card £379.99, or ebuyer, who have the only factory-overclocked variant that we've seen listed for £400.95. If you actually want to get your hands on a GTX 580 today, you'll want to head over to novatech, which is the only retailer with cards in stock for under £400.

All of the cards are hitting retailers for about the same price though, so you shouldn't feel too hard done by spending £410 if you really want one this week. And when you're spending £400 on a GPU, what's another £10 here or there?

……..and we'll let you know come the end of the month Mark :)

For no par-ticular reason y'understand

Seriously, pre-Cayman just can't make a decision. Although having 580 waterblocks in stock would be nice..
I bet you could expect some seriously tasty overclocks with 580 waterblocks, probably a few weeks before we start to see 580 blocks filtering through.
Hoping it might not be too bad - card is almost exactly the same layout as the 480 so… But I usually don't buy a card till the waterblock is ready tbh.
