PowerColor is set to dabble in producing a Radeon HD 5770 graphics card that's cooled by a single-slot heatsink, down from the double-height cooler found on all current cards. Now it appears as if XFX is going one better by prepping two such single-slot-taking cards of its own.

The folks over at PC Watch have the skinny, and it seems as if one model, pictured above, will feature two dual-link DVI ports and a mini-DisplayPort connector on the back, while the second card will come out all guns blazing with five mini-DisplayPort connectors.

A Radeon HD 5770 with Eyefinity 5 seems like a slightly strange choice, seeing as five monitors aren't supported right now, but why let pragmatism and driver-support get in the way of a good idea?

Clocked in at a reference-matching 850MHz core and 4,800MHz memory, we expect both cards to go on sale in the middle of August for around £150. We also reckon that AMD's partners are busy readying these new HD 57x0 cards in preparation for NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce GTS 450.

From the look of the ATI page, while 5 monitors in a single group isn't possible, you could have combined groupings which contained 5 monitors in 2 or more groups: e.g. a 3 + 2 or 4 + 1… ?
