Inno3D is the latest partner to let us know that it intends on producing a GeForce GTX 275 graphics card with 1,792MB of on-board memory, compared to 896MB for a regular card.

The card will ship at the stock frequencies of 633MHz core, 1,404MHz shader, and 2,268MHz memory. It's clear that NVIDIA's partners have a surfeit of GDDR3 chips on their hands and intend to 'double-up' as the opportunity presents itself with new GPUs.

A number of 896MB-equipped GTX 275 cards are available for £200, proving to be a little more expensive than the cheapest competing Radeon HD 4890 GPUs, so the £275 asking price for the 1,792MB GTX 275s seems rather too expensive.

We really can't see the economic case for the card if priced at >£250. Let's see if Inno3D can bring it in for less than that.

complete overkill as far as i can see..

1GB is the most anyone would recommend now.

chips are better optimised to handle more memory now but certainly not 1.7GB optimised.

Low end chips, 256MB
Mid end chips, 512MB
Mid-high end, 512-1GB
High End, 1GB
Ultra High End (multiple chip design), 2GB..

Period..

anymore in any class will be money badly spent…
I agree, maybe this is to capture some of the misinformed people that think the more RAM a graphics card has the faster it is, regardless of GPU or Architecture!
