We all love our freebies, and BFG - an NVIDIA graphics partner who has previously demonstrated its desire to look after its customers - is offering users the opportunity to swap an AGP card for a PCIe equivalent.

The free upgrade allows customers to replace their AGP-based BFG GeForce product for a new PCIe-based GeForce 9-series alternative. For an added cost of $50, users can upgrade to a more powerful card such as BFG's 9800 GT OC.

It's a cracking deal, but there are a few points to be aware of. Firstly, the offer is available to U.S. customers only, and there's no mention of a similar upgrade deal being made available to other regions.

Secondly, you'll be required to register your existing product online at the BFG website, and in order to be eligible for the upgrade, your card needs to be in good working order. If that's the case, you'll be able to complete the upgrade process online, but be aware that you'll need a motherboard that supports the PCIe interface in order to make use of your replacement product.

Here are the upgrade options currently on offer:

Your current working AGP product   PCI Express upgrade - FREE   PCI Express upgrade - $50
BFG GeForce 7600 GS OC 512MB AGP
BFG GeForce 9500 GT OC 1GB PCIe
BFG GeForce 9600 GT OC 512MB PCIe
BFG GeForce 6800 OC 128MB AGP   BFG GeForce 9600 GT OC 512MB PCIe   BFG GeForce 9800 GT OC 512MB PCIe

BFG GeForce 7800 GS OC 256MB AGP   BFG GeForce 9600 GT OC 512MB PCIe   BFG GeForce 9800 GT OC 512MB PCIe

If this deal if offered over here I can take advantage of it replace my currently unused 7800 GS and get myself a better card then my 2600 XT :)
That would just devalue the card :P
Pity my 6600GT isn't on there
Im confused as how this helps people, if you have an AGP card then what use is a PCI-e card? i guess its their way of hinting to buy their motherboards?. Its a good idea for replacing an old card with a good one for free.

It probably is the incentive for them to upgrade, and who knows people might as they won't need to buy a new graphics card and they can just sell the rest of their system :)

For me I just see this a nice gesture for its customers which BFG in my opinion don't potentially gain any profit from.

Perhaps they have excess stock of the 9600 GT OC and 9800 GT OC that they want to clear..?
