Corsair Memory, Inc., an industry leader in ultra-performance DDR DRAM modules for gaming and overclocking applications, has announced that it is now offering a new extra-low latency product family for performance computing enthusiasts. This product family is geared toward providing a memory platform that is optimized for today’s performance computing environment.

This low latency product family provides extremely low latency settings at both 333 MHz and 400 MHz. These latency settings are programmed into the modules Serial Presence Detect (“SPD”) component. This ensures that under default conditions the system will boot up at optimal memory settings, for the ultimate Plug-n-Frag™ computing experience.

These modules are available in sizes of both 256 MByte and 512 MByte, at either 333 MHz (also known as PC2700) or 400 MHz (also known as PC3200). The modules are available with either black or aluminum heat spreader, and are fully tested at the following aggressive latency settings:

CAS latency: 2.0 clock cycles

RAS precharge: 2 cycles

RAS-to-CAS delay: 2 cycles

RAS active to precharge: 5 cycles for PC2700, 6 cycles for PC3200

Command rate: 1T (1 cycle)

Performance computing enthusiasts have recognized for some time that these latency settings may, in fact, have a greater impact on overall system performance than the overall memory bus speed. Indeed, the latency settings have become even more critical due to current system architecture. The latest chip sets have demonstrated that performance is greatest when the memory bus runs at an integral multiple of the front side bus of the processor. So, the optimum memory performance is attained when the memory bus is synchronous with the processor, and latency settings are reduced to the lowest values possible.

The low latency family consists of the following products, all of which are available immediately:

CMX256A-2700LL: 256 MByte, PC2700, 2-2-2-5-T1 latency settings, Black or Platinum (“PT” part number suffix) aluminum heat spreader

CMX256A-3200LL: 256 MByte, PC3200, 2-2-2-6-T1 latency settings, Black or Platinum (“PT” part number suffix) aluminum heat spreader

CMX512-2700LL: 512 MByte, PC2700, 2-2-2-5-T1 latency settings, Black or Platinum (“PT” part number suffix) aluminum heat spreader

CMX512-3200LL: 512 MByte, PC3200, 2-2-2-6-T1 latency settings, Black or Platinum (“PT” part number suffix) aluminum heat spreader
