AMD's Trinity architecture has made its long-awaited debut on the desktop, and on the face of it, the new chips have promise. Take a tried-and-trusted GPU, attach a competent CPU, and you've got an APU that ticks many of the right boxes for a mid-range multimedia PC.

Keen pricing helps push the APU argument, but there are a few stipulations; a new FM2 motherboard is needed, power-draw may be a concern, and dual graphics can be hit-or-miss.

Not to mention the usual hurdle; how do you convince shoppers in the local PC World that anything other than a Core i3, Core i5 or Core i7 will do?

We've had our say, now it's over to you. Has AMD done enough to close the gap? Are you considering an APU for your next build? Or were you expecting more? Let us know in the comments below.

I guess in the end, the systems built around the chip need to be compelling so that people going into the store will look at them, try them out, and want to buy them.

That means: Not looking like a brick turd, not costing the earth, not having some other lousy aspect that will put people off (in comparison to other products also on sale), and so on.
They'd also have to be promoted by non-jackass salespeople that automatically promote only Intel machines unless a customer specifically asks for AMD. I've bumped onto cases where the salesperson would go straight for Intel, even if their component balance is down the drain.
Hi, yes, if I am planning making a small PC that could run not top 3D games and a small cost
Would take a lot of convincing, even a casual gamer would still want a discrete GPU, especially with the latest round of price cuts to the 7850. Any non gamer would prefer a cheap Ivy Bridge.

The window where Trinity is worthwhile just seems too small and obscure.

I dunno, maybe someone out there is a big fan of DiRT Showdown and nothing else.
If I were to build a smaller PC, such as an HTPC, it would be a definite maybe
