Conclusion

Only one area in Khitai is open to lower level players (level 20-40) with the other four being specifically geared for players at level 80. No matter where you start though the difficulty curve in Khitai is much steeper than other continents and it's obvious from the outset that the new dungeons and quests are tweaked in favour of experienced players with above average gear.

Unfortunately, while you feel Funcom has put a great deal of effort into creating a huge world to explore and polished out some bugs and niggles from Hyborian Adventures, the new quests are severely lacking in variety. Most of them seem to go nowhere, and even though many of them are tied together the majority never feel like they lead to more than a lengthy grinding session and some new gear. For some players that will almost certainly be enough but it personally, it left me yearning for the quality and presentation of the earlier quest lines.

The new "Alternate Advancement" system further reinforces the notion that the expansion pack is something to keep high level players grinding for new gear until the next batch of content. You acquire AA points for virtually every task you complete, one million points earns you four AA points to spend on perks for you character. Some are very useful, especially in the faster paced boss battles and tougher dungeons of Khitai. Others feel useless for lower level characters though and again it comes back to how much time you're willing to put into the game, and how much enjoyment you find in grinding your way to self improvement.

Overall, Rise of the Godslayer is a mixed bag. It offers a lot of extra content but unless you already have a high level character, or you're the kind of player that takes pride in their gear and is willing to put an awful lot of hours in it may not be for you. What it does, it does exceptionally well but casual players or newcomers to the world of Conan may be better served putting Rise of the Godslayer on the back burner or leaving it alone all together.
