Stock shortages set to continue
Wii are currently dribbling into the stores on a weekly basis, but there still isn't enough stock to cope with consumer demand. Over the Easter period 25,000 units were sold in the UK, but there's going to another dry period until Nintendo nail down firm plans to ramp up production.
Nintendo is currently relying solely on FOXCONN to manufacture the console, but last month it was revealed that the company were on the hunt for an additional partner, with the likes of PS3 manufacturer ASUSTek, Xbox 360 manufacturer Wistron and Compal Electronics all pitching for the business.
Today, it still appears that a partner hasn't been found and Nintendo VP of marketing and corporate affairs Perrin Kaplan confirmed that the stock shortages may continue for some time.
"There is a lot going on behind the scenes in terms of working on what we are producing and the numbers continue to rise but the product is so very popular that we may see a supply / demand situation last for some time ... We are at absolute maximum production and doing everything we can."
If you haven't got hold of one yet, don't fret. By Christmas there should be some decent games out; at the moment you're not missing much.
