Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and British Telecom's Go!Messenger service, which launched on the Playstation Portable in February last year, is due to be scrapped next month after failing to attract the large user base that both companies had expected.

The Go!Messenger VOIP service is a free Instant Messenger Program that allows PSP users to send messages and videochat via the Go!Cam peripheral.

Sony has reassured users who have purchased the Go!Cam that additional services to make use of the camera will be announced in due course.

“Although Go!Messenger brought innovative communications features to the PSP community, the service has not developed the base of users that we were hoping for,” said an SCEE spokesperson.

“We’d like to thank all fans of Go!Messenger and are sorry to have to make this announcement.”
