HOT PXL

One of the unsung heroes of E3 was HOT PXL, a collection of micro-games themed around street culture and the digital lifestyle. The rapid fire game play requires players to draw on their old-school arcade prowess to get through hundreds of inspired scenarios, whether it’s blasting through an old-school, Zaxxon-inspired game, busting tricks on a massive skateboarding half pipe, stage-diving at a pixellated concert or simply trying to cross the street. By playing through the regular game (Story Mode), players unlock new options and alternate versions of the micro-games that encourage social play.

With so many different types of games to play HOT PXL is extremely addictive and a hell of a lot of fun! There are over 200 micro games, two player party modes and the promise of online playlists for download which can be transferred from your PC to your PSP.

HOT PXL features a 10 chapter story mode which takes you through the micro games in order. Most of these games are incredibly easy to control through the use of the X button and the d-pad. There is also a theatre mode in which you can dive into any game you wish.

One of the mini games we played involved crossing the road. It's an extremely simple premise in which you'll rapidly press the X button in order for the Green man (on the traffic light) to beat up the Red man. Whilst the game mechanics are extremely simple and the graphics relatively basic, the range of quirky games are very compelling.

HOT PXL is a fast paced collection of funky games that requires reflexes and co-ordination. It's a unique game for the PSP that appears to be generating quite a lot of interest.

HOT PXL is due out at Christmas.
