For the seventh year running, Leipzig is set to become the mecca for the international video and computer game industry from 21st to 24th August 2008, the Games Convention will bring together the game industry, trade visitors, the media and, most importantly, the gamers in one massive place for what can be argued as being a games event bigger than e3… and perhaps more important because of it.

Since E3 ended last week we’ve seen several key people in senior positions within the major publishers reporting their disappointment in the neutered E3… And whilst GC is still a heck of a way to travel for a games show, low airfares and hotel prices in Germany mean that publishers will be hitting a far more cosmopolitan group of gamers in Leipzig than in LA, (where they didn’t see any real gamers at all…).

Wolfgang Marzin, CEO at the Leipziger Messe is reporting over 500 companies from 26 countries including the USA, France, the UK, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden and Russia will be exhibiting their wares at GC 2008. And ther’s just enough room with the show taking up 111,500 sq m. The speculation that GC will be shifting to Cologne has been scotched by Marzin, who earlier this year confirmed that GC 2009 was most definitely on. But to cope with the show’s increasing popularity, there’s been a few changes to make things easier for the press, trade and public.
