Let battle commence.

UK gamers desperate to get their hands on Nintendo's 3DS console will be pleased to know that the battle for their custom has commenced, with a supermarket offering the biggest price-cut so far.

The console has an RRP of £230 but Morissons supermarket is offering the console to pre-order for £187; some £43 off the original price.

Gamers wishing to pre-order the console for the £197 price tag need to leave a £10 deposit, according to the store's website.

So far Morissons seems to be offering the most competitive deal for the console. Amazon is selling the 3DS for pre-order at £196.99, the same price as HMV. Meanwhile, gamers can pre-order the console from Tesco for £197 and get £10 off a 3DS game and there is no news from Sainsbury's.

It will be interesting to note whether the console will get another price cut ahead of its launch, especially from online retailers, such as Amazon.

HMV is Nintendo's partner for the launch of the 3D console and 150 stores across the UK will open at midnight on 25 March, allowing gamers to get their hands on the new release as soon as possible, instead of having to wait for the postman.

HMV's 150 Oxford Street shop in central London will host the official UK retail launch event, including the first official customer purchase and Nintendo clearly hopes for queues around the block for the launch.

It said the first 500 gaming enthusiasts to purchase the console at the flagship store's midnight opening will each be able to choose a free 3DS game.

A total of 13 full games will be available for the console at its launch and Nintendo seems to be showcasing the 3D version of Nintendogs and Pilotwings Resort, in particular.

Just to clarify something - you can get it cheaper.

Morrisons is the cheapest list price for the actual console on its own, but you will need at least 1 game to go with it..right?

So when you factor that in, the Tesco Entertainment deal is better - £207 for the console and any of the launch games, plus quidco plus £4.50 in clubcard points make it about £165 for the console and a game. Surprised if anyone starts to undercut that :)

I changed my pre-order to that deal last night, but who knows..may have to change it again if someone else does manage to undercut the big T!

I got lured into the Tesco + Quidco deal, but that was when I realised how pap the launch lineup is. 11 games, most of which are rehashes of old games. There wasn't really anything I actually wanted from the list. I chose Pilotwings in the end.
